Vivre à Tazmamart

For eighteen years, 58 people “disappeared" in Morocco. From 1973 until 1991, they were secretly detained in horrifying conditions in Tazmamart, in southeastern Morocco, to quench the vengeance of King Hassan II. More than half of them died. Under international pressure and after years of denying the existence of Tazmamart, the king released the surviving prisoners. In Vivre À Tazmamart, five of them share their experiences in the “the prison of the death”.

Vivre À Tazmamart is a documentary which unquestionably stands out. It is the recipient of several prizes, among which: Grand Jury Prize of the 2007 Montreal Human Rights Film Festival, Grand Prix du CMCA Enjeux Méditerranéens, Prix international du Documentaire et du Reportage Méditerranéen 2005, Grand Prix Les Escales Documentaires de La Rochelle 2005, and received mention at the Festival International du Cinéma Méditerranéen de Montpellier in 2005.
