The whole world loves the taste of falafel, but in the Middle East, it’s the dish they proudly call their own. Can this humble sandwich bring people and even nations together? Falafelism follows the falafel as it rolls it’s way through world history, cultural identity, the working class, international politics, the diaspora, a bunch of hospitable cooks and one stuffed face. Filmed in North America, Europe and the Middle East, with leading scholars, restaurateurs and everyday people, the filmmaker gains 20 pounds in search of meaning and hope for a brighter future.
